Standing mere metres from the sand of Collaroy Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, lies the casual yet sophisticated Collaroy Hotel. The welcoming & playful fit out of the two floors, sing in perfect harmony with its location. Wide-spanning windows paint beautifully vast water views & allow the sea breeze to fill the dining space. Beach side summer dining doesn’t get much better than this.
On top of an expansive wine list, including the likes of Vueve Clicquot, Morgans Bay and Penfolds, the drinks cabinet is where it is at for your refreshing summer brews, including Corona and Peroni, while also catering for the craft beer lovers with the likes of 4 Pines and Endeavour.
Prior to indulging in the delicious feast before us, we treated ourselves to a few sneaky Cocktails, including The Passionate Botanist (Botanist Gin, House-Made Sencha Green-Tea Syrup, Fresh Passionfruit & Fresh Lime) and the White-Choc Passionfruit Martini (Ketel One Vodka, White Chocolate Syrup, Passionfruit & Fresh Ruby-Red Grapefruit). The White-Choc Passionfruit Martini completely blew us away! Striking a perfect balance between all flavours, it was neither too sweet, too alcoholic nor too chocolatey. The winning element was without a doubt the cloud like, creamy white chocolate foam coated the top of the martini glass, topped with a hollowed out passionfruit bursting with white chocolate drops. Heaven!
The Collaroy Hotel takes great pride in providing delicious food all with a focus on fresh and organic product. The menu ticks all the boxes for the perfect meal to finish off a sunny, sandy and salty summers day at the beach. Ranging from Sydney Rock Oysters (6 for $24), to Pulled Pork Burgers with Ghost Pepper & Papaya Sauce, Slaw and Pickles ($17), a ‘Vitality Salad’ with Organic Quinoa, Roast Sweet Potato, Baby Spinach & Kale, Heirloom Tomatoes, Marinated Fetta and Toasted Seeds ($22), and a 300g Cape Grim Sirloin with Paris Butter and Hand Cut Fries ($35), there are plentiful amounts of options to satisfy even the fussiest of taste buds!
We were lucky enough to be treated to an array of different menu items, all seafood inspired. Each and every dish was beautifully presented, used only the freshest of ingredients, and complemented one another seamlessly. The Fish Tacos with Chipotle and Salsa ($5.50 each) were one of our favourite dishes from the evening. Featuring a soft tortilla, full to the brim of fresh, beautifully cooked fish with just the right amount of spicy salsa, these taco’s are the perfect accompaniment to a beach side beverage!
You simply cannot and must not go to the Collaroy Hotel and not indulge in their signature Waffle Fries with Chipotle Mayo and Lime Aioli ($9.50). They are truly everything you would think they’d be and more. Crunchy on the outside, smooth as butter on the inside, with the perfect dipping sauces as an accompaniment. They are the kind of thing you would get in the car and drive 45 minutes for…everyday!
If you are seeking a more substantial yet fresh meal, it would be hard to go past The Collaroy Seafood Platter ($110 – only available on Saturday’s and Sunday’s). Featuring Sydney rock oysters, balmain bugs, fresh king prawns, lobster and crab, this platter overflows with fresh market fish and cooked seafood.
We finished our evening with the Summer Pavlova with Seasonal Fruits and Vanilla Cream ($13). It embodied everything a perfect Australian pavlova should be – a crisp yet light crust hiding beneath it a soft, light and fluffy inside, coated with fresh, seasonal berries, mango and cream. Perfection!
With its light filled spaces, delicious food, extensive drinks menu, and incredible views, The Collaroy Hotel embodies the perfect summer dining experience.
